About Durham Medical

Durham Medical is a locally owned and family operated business that has had the pleasure of serving Durham Region for over 40 years. Through the 1980’s and 1990’s, Jacquie Sims created a business that was built on understanding the sensitive needs of the clients in Durham and providing quality medical products.

In 1998, after Jacquie’s retirement, Bill and Natalie Sims took on the challenge of guiding Durham Medical into the 21st Century. In 2010, Bill and Natalie moved their location to the decommissioned Oshawa Courthouse at 242 King Street East in Oshawa. With over 20,000 square feet, this new location provided Durham Medical the opportunity to expand their business through a massive increase in showroom space, the ability to include several client focused consultation and fitting rooms, as well as, inclusive accessibility to the location and its amenities.

Over the course of 20 years, Durham Medical has increased the number of specially trained Client Service Representatives and Rehab Sales Representatives from a small team of 12 to over 30 employees to assist their growing number of clients.

Bill has become both a community and industry leader in comprehensive, complex care for clients of all ages, pediatric to geriatric. In addition to servicing a diverse client population at Durham Medical, Bill has also been President of Durham Mental Health Services Board of Directors since 2009.

His experiences with both have given him a working knowledge of the community health care and mental health care systems and exposed him to the accreditation, governance and strategic planning processes.
Durham Medical’s strength will always be their experienced, knowledgeable and client focused personnel. You will find a warm and welcoming environment with friendly employees willing to listen and ask questions to ensure that they understand any challenges and goals so that they can assist in finding the most appropriate product based on needs.

Being at the forefront of their community is also very important to both Bill and Natalie. Through the years, they have generously donated both their time and financial support to various charitable organizations, such as Grandview Children’s Centre, Hearth Place Cancer Centre, Durham Community Foundation, Lakeridge Health, Community Living, Parkwood Foundation, Simcoe Hall Settlement House and most recently to assist in the building of the Durham Region Hospice.

At Durham Medical, “Making Life Easier” is not just a tag line – It represents the core value of the Management and Staff and what drives them to help people throughout the community. We welcome you to visit us today!
